Présentation de Dr. Luís Fernando Revers : Integrating genetics and genomics to understand bud dormancy in apple.

Abstract:

The production of apple in Brazil is located in subtropical regions whose climatic conditions during the winter season do not satisfy the chilling requirement of the cultivars. Therefore, the production relies on technified management of the orchards and use of artificial induction of dormancy release with hydrogen cyanamide. In face of the global warming predictions, understand the genetics and molecular control of dormancy is crucial for the sustainability of the apple production and breeding of new adapted cultivars. Joining efforts with other Brazilian institutions such as Epagri and more recently with the INRA UMR AGAP, the Laboratory of Plant Molecular Genetics from Embrapa in Bento Gonçalves, RS - Brazil has been developing research to help unveil the genetic and molecular control of bud dormancy in apple, a biological process of still little compreension.
