Cirad offers a permanent position to a geneticist/breeder (F/M) for the rubber tree (Hevea brasiliensis) in West Africa. This researcher will join the GSP (Genome and breeding of perennial crops) team within the Joint Research Unit AGAP Institute, « Breeding and adaptation of Mediterranean and tropical crops ».

At this position, you will join an innovative project devoted to rubber tree breeding, based on the development of genomic selection. For managing this project, you will learn about the biology of the rubber tree, rubber cropping systems, and the functioning of the natural rubber commodity chain.

Furthermore, you will build a partnership with public research and development institutions for developing a participatory breeding program with smallholder producers for the identification of varieties more suited to the farmers’ needs. You will share your time between partnerships with the private sector (50 %), African research and development public institutions (25 %), and Cirad activities like project building and scientific valorization (25 %).
