Agap Institute at the International Horticultural Congress 2022

AGAP Institute teams - Architecture and flowering of fruit species (AFEF), Biological Resource Centre for tropical plants in the West Indies (CRB-PT), Determinism, Expression and Functioning of Traits of Interest in Yam (DEFI), Banana genetics and breeding (GABA), Phenotyping and Modeling of Plants in their Agro-climatic ENvironment (PhenoMEn) and Citrus evolution, polyploidy and breeding (SEAPAG) - were present in Angers from August 14 to 19, 2022 during the XXI International Horticultural Congress which brought together 2,500 people. One PhD received Young Mind Awards, and two seniors were honored with an introductory lecture and a “Fellow Award”.

Several AGAP breeding programs were presented in the S1 Symposium “Effective use of biotechnology and molecular tools in horticultural crops” and the S21 “XII International symposium on Banana: Celebrating Banana organic production”: Gemma Arnau (DEFI) on traits quality Yam; Lucile Toniutti (GABA) on morphological and quality traits in triploid populations of bananas; Frédéric Salmon (GABA) on the selection of banana trees for the reduction of pesticides.

The issues of conservation and use of citrus genetic resources were presented by Raphaël Morillon and François Luro (SEAPAG) during the S02 on conservation and sustainable use of Horticultural genetic resources and the CRB-PT was presented by a poster carried by Nilda Paulo de la Reberdiere (CRB-PT Martinique)

The concepts of Digital Twin and coupling between phenotyping data and FSPM models were presented by Christophe Pradal () in the introductory conference of S18 “III International symposium on mechanisation, precision horticulture, and robotics”. Juan-Pablo Rojas Bustos (AFEF-PhenoMen PhD) won the Young Mind Award for the best oral presentation by a PhD in S18, on the comparison of architectural indicators from airborne and terrestrial Lidar.

Evelyne Costes (DirAGAP and AFEF), Chair of the Division “Physiology and Plant-Environment Interactions of Horticultural crops in Field systems” received a Fellow Award for her scientific contribution in Horticulture during the General Assembly of the International Society.
