Job offer: Geneticist / Cotton breeder

CIRAD is recruiting a researcher in cotton genetics and varietal improvement to join the Genetics and Varietal Innovation (GIV) team of the AGAP Institut joint research unit (Amélioration Génétique et Adaptation des Plantes tropicales et méditerranéennes).

This team contributes to the optimization of breeding methods and their implementation on several annual crops (rice, sorghum, millet, cotton and roots and tubers) in partnership with research and development institutions in developing countries.

The cotton plant is an industrial crop, with outlets mainly in the textile sector, but also in the food and cosmetics sectors. In tropical and subtropical regions, it is a major component of production systems that also include food crops. Strengthening research into cotton-based production systems in developing countries contributes to territorial development and food self-sufficiency for the populations of these countries. To meet the current and future challenges facing the African cotton industry, it is crucial to design new varieties that take into account the evolution of production systems, the constraints of climate change (CC) and the sustainability of the industry's profitability and competitiveness.
