Society had a meeting with research to discover the diversity of citrus fruit

With a warmful sun of December, workers of citrus industry and non-professional people were invited to discover the citrus diversity from the INRAE / CIRAD collection and the origin of cultivated varieties during two events.

The Chambre d’Agriculture of Haute Corse invited the INRAE center of Corsica to participate in the agricultural fair from December 3 to 5, 2021. The staff organized a fruit exhibition of 55 varieties and species from the INRAE and CIRAD citrus collection representing a part of the citrus diversity.

In addition the MetroCitrus poster (2 x 3 m) representing the phylogeny of the cultivated species was deployed to explain the origins of the cultivated citrus. The INRAE stand was located at the entrance of the fair, in front of the meeting room where the inauguration of the fair and of the new buildings of the chamber of agriculture took place.

A week later on, the INRAE station of San Giuliano organized two open days on December 10 and 11, 2021. The first day was dedicated to professionals and the second one to the non-professional citrus lovers. Workers of INRAE and CIRAD institutes gave guided tours of the citrus collection with the taste of citrus fruits to groups of visitors. These visits were completed by an indoor visit tasting of 13 orange varieties and a very colorful presentation of fruits of 110 varieties (10% of the collection) representative of the citrus genetic and phenotypic diversities. More than 100 people from Corsica and the continent of France were welcomed during these two days.
