Domaine de Vassal biological resource centre for grapevine

INRAE’s Domaine de Vassal biological resource centre houses an ampelographic collection that is unique in the world, with over 7,500 grapevine accessions from more than 50 countries, covering approximately 2,300 Vitis vinifera L. varieties (or vines), 800 varieties of producing interspecific hybrids, 230 varieties of rootstocks, a thousand introductions being identified and a portfolio of experimental varieties. The unit takes part in various research programmes at national, European and global level, and, along with the French Vine and Wine Institute (IFV), it coordinates the French grapevine network bringing together thirty professional partners operating in rural areas.

Citrus Biological Resource Centre

The Citrus BRC is one of the five largest collections of Citrus in the world and ranks first among the European and Mediterranean collections. Its richness and the quality of the material are known and acknowledged internationally. The collection was launched more than 50 years ago and comprises introductions from 42 countries. It includes more than 850 varieties from the 3 Citrus botanical genera, interspecific and intergeneric hybrids and varieties from genera related to Citrus. The research team recently began giving thought to optimizing the management of these genetic resources in order to reduce costs, ensure the longevity of their preservation, and enrich the collection wisely, without increasing the areas planted.
