Structure and dynamics of genomes

Aims

Last update: 30 December 2021

  • Understand the structure and evolution of genomes on different scales (link with cluster 1).
  • Extend pan-genomic approaches to other species covered by the Unit, in connection with the breeding programmes and the genes/traits being worked on (links with cluster 3 and cluster 4).
  • Analyse the impact of genome architecture on chromosomal recombination and segregation up to implications for the phenome (genotype-phenotype link based on ancestral haplotypes and functional diversity of the ancestral haplotypes of candidate genes): links with cluster 3 (genome regulation and differentiation depending on the haplotype) and cluster 4 (association and QTLs).
  • Make use of genome structure knowledge to guide varietal creation schemes by reconstruction (link with cluster 4): develop strategies for varietal creation through reconstruction of major ideotypes based on complex genomic structures.
  • Adapt quantitative genetic approaches, such as GWAS, QTLs, to polyploid, interspecific, and vegetatively propagated plants (link with cluster 4) to determine the genetic determinants of targeted traits.
  • Explore relations between clonal variations, epigenetics (TE) and associated traits in the dynamics of vegetatively propagated plants (links with cluster 3 (epigenetics in adaptation) and cluster 4, particularly for grapevine).
  • Develop new bioinformatic approaches (visualization, genomics, pan-genomics) for heterogeneous data /big data management (links with cluster 1, cluster 3 (modelling, phenotypic data) and cluster 4).
