Three founding ancestral genomes involved in the origin of sugarcane
19/04/2021
Sugarcane is probably the most complex crop genome, combining high polyploidy, interspecificity and aneuploidy. This paper suggests that three, not two, ancestral genomes are involved in modern cultivars adding an additional level of complexity.

Genetic control of flowering in greater yam (Dioscorea alata L.)
13/04/2021
In Asian yam, a major genetic barrier to flowering was located on chromosome 1 and genetic sex determination of the XX/XY type was confirmed. This is located on chromosome 6. The results of this study could facilitate the design of future promising parental combinations in D. alata breeding programs. They also open new avenues to better understand the biology of yam reproduction and diversification.
