The Agricultural Research Centre on Perennial Plants (Crapp, Benin) plays an important role in research on oil palm and in the production of improved seeds. To attract students to oil the palm research and raise awareness of the roles of Crapp, an annual training was established in 2008 and its fourth session held in April 2012.

New molecular resources to study the medicinal plant Centella asiatica

Centella asiatica is an important traditional and industrial crop in Madagascar that is collected in the wild for its specific medicinal properties. Ony Rakotondralambo is actually preparing a pHD thesis at the University of Antananarivo entitled Centella asiatica (L.) Urban: biology, genetic diversity, conservation and exploitation management in Madagascar. Here, in the UMR-AGAP facilities, we construct new SSR enriched library and set up microsatellite markers for the study of genetic diversity of C. asiatica in Madagascar.

Atelier Sorgho : une plante multi-usages

Un atelier s'est tenu du 7 au 9 mars 2012 à Montpellier, visant à définir une stratégie globale de recherche pour le développement de l'utilisation du sorgho pour l'alimentation animale, la bioénergie et les biomatériaux. Des scientifiques du Brésil, du Mali, du Burkina et du Sénégal ont participé à cette rencontre. Cette réflexion fait écho au financement du projet Biomass For The Future qui vise la mise en place de filières de valorisation de la biomasse à base de miscanthus et de sorgho au niveau national.

Pour une filière fruits durable

Un communiqué de presse s'est déroulé le mercredi 29 février 2012. L’Inra et 21 partenaires* institutionnels et professionnels ont signé, en présence du Ministre en charge de l’agriculture, une convention pour la création du GIS Fruits (Groupement d’Intérêt Scientifique Fruits). S’inscrivant dans un contexte économique actuellement difficile pour cette filière française, ce GIS vise à accompagner les mutations de ce secteur par la coordination et la conduite d’actions de recherche, d’expérimentation, de développement et de formation. L’enjeu pour l’ensemble de la filière fruits est d’améliorer sa compétitivité tout en répondant aux exigences environnementales et sociétales.

Training Workshop for SAMARA Crop Model Users

A training workshop adressed to SAMARA crop model users had been held in Montpellier on March 2012, 5-9th. The workshop was organised by the PAM team and gathered about 20 ecophysiologists specialized in rice, sorghum or sugarcane. The main objectives of the worshop were (1) to present the new functionalities recently incorporated in the model, (2) to to make the participants autonomous and critical in their utilization of the model, and (3) to carry on a common reflexion on possible evolutions of the model.

Oil Palm and sustainable development

Jacquemard Jean Charles, just to publish with the collaboration of several experts and researchers of the Cirad a book entitled: The oil palm. This book addresses all aspects of the plant and its products: market, morphology and biology, creation and exploitation of a palm grove with study of the environmental and socio-economic impact.
